Here is a flavorful Asian inspired sea food dish. It pairs great with white rice or plantain; it’s up to you. I love shrimps, so of course I enjoyed it. But I feel like fresh ginger is always a great ingredient to add to almost any savory dish; and this one is no different.
Ingredients:
2 lbs of fresh small shrimps
5-6 cloves of garlic
3 tbsp of grated fresh ginger
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of black pepper
1/2 tsp of chili powder
3 green onions
1 medium sized onion
1/3 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of sesame oil

The most time consuming part of this dish is preparing the ingredients. First, clean the shrimps. Take off the shells, and the veins on both sides of the shrimps. Rinse them thoroughly under cold water. You can also skip all this work by using frozen shrimps, but make sure to defrost them ahead of time. Slice the green onions finely. Dice the onion in small pieces. Peel the ginger. Mince both the ginger and the garlic.
Now, let’s get to the cooking part. Place a pan on medium/high heat. Make sure it is hot before starting. Pour the sesame oil, add in the ginger, garlic and diced onion and let them cook for one minute. Add in the cleaned shrimps, black pepper, chili powder and salt (I am using sea salt), mix them in and cover the pan and let them cook for about five minutes. After the time has passed, check the shrimps. They should all have changed to a pink color. Pour in the soy sauce, and let it continue cooking for three minutes uncovered. Then add the sliced green onions and turn off the heat.
Serve warm with a side of white rice or boiled plantain.
